– We are with Miguel Avellaneda, one of the professors of the Master in People Analytics. Well, Miguel, first of all, again, it’s great to have you here, that you on page seo service can tell us a little about yourself, about your career, about your subject and about the master. Would you like to tell us a little about yourself first, about your work, about your studies.
– Yes, well, I have a curious story because I started… I am a geomatics engineer, it is a branch closely related to civil engineering. I was working for a few years on topics related to civil engineering and suddenly I fell into a project a few years ago that had to do with data analysis. There I worked in collaboration with the Higher Center for Scientific Research, the Institute of Geosciences, here in Spain, where data analysis was done that has to do with geological displacements, etc. That experience in data analysis led me to consider a change in my professional career. I did a master’s degree in Big Data in 2014-2015 and changed my professional path, I left the civil engineering part, research and started working at Telefónica. There I started in the headquarters of people, as we call it, in human resources departments, and what I do there, well, I lead some others that have to do with data, technology, digitalization, etc.
-Okay, great, I mean, you are super familiar with what People Analytics is, at that moment, what caught your attention or what did you like the most to say, okay, this is the way or I want to work in this?
-Above all, what I saw was an opportunity, because when I arrived at Telefónica 9 years ago, everything was still to be done. And I have to say that at Telefónica we are at the forefront in many aspects, many other companies have been a bit behind, marketing, finance, sales, etc. departments did have a good understanding of the use of data to make decisions and perhaps in People, in human resources, at that time not so much. And well, the truth is that I have lived this journey from within and I have looked back and what we can do now is incomparable with what we did nine years ago, the truth is, it has been a great change.
-I imagine we are all very alert and seeing all the new changes that these new innovations are generating, these new tools that are also being applied. So, tell us a little about your subject in the People Analytics Master's Degree, what is human resources data management? What are the students going to learn? What is the study syllabus? What can you tell us about that.
